Porting is the process of transferring your existing phone number from one service provider to another. When moving your number to Aircall, your current provider is called the losing carrier, and Aircall is the gaining carrier.
Key information before porting
Before you submit a porting request, please review the following points to ensure a smooth process.
- You must be an active Aircall customer with a paid subscription plan. Porting is not available for trial accounts.
- To confirm porting availability, review the required documents and expected timelines, visit number porting requirements by country.
- Porting ETA starts once your request is submitted to your current carrier, provided all details are correct and no rejections occur. The final decision regarding the porting date is made by your current provider.
- All porting requests must be initiated by Aircall. You cannot start the process directly with your current provider.
- Your numbers must remain active with your current carrier until the porting is complete. Cancelling early may result in losing the numbers permanently.
- To prevent rejections, request a Customer Service Record (CSR) from your current provider to confirm all account details before submission.
- Some numbers are assigned individually, while others belong to number blocks or multi-line ranges. It is not possible to port only a single number from a range, all numbers within a range must be ported together. We strongly recommend checking with your current carrier to confirm whether your numbers belong to a block or are individual lines before submitting your porting request. You can refer to the number porting requirements by country guide to see which countries this applies to.
Porting process
Steps:
-
Submit your request
Open a porting ticket via Help Center and attach the latest invoice from your current provider along with the required documents for porting your number (see number porting requirements by country). Our team may ask for additional details depending on the number type and country. -
Sign the LOA
Aircall will send you a Letter of Authorization (LOA) that authorizes us to submit your porting request. Review the details carefully and, if everything is correct, sign the LOA. -
Handle losing carrier response
Once the LOA is signed, Aircall will submit the request to your current provider.- If there are no rejections from the losing carrier, we will receive a scheduled port date and notify you on your porting ticket.
- If it is rejected, we will contact you for resolution and resubmit your request (for more details visit handling porting rejections).
Note:
• When Aircall receives the confirmed porting date from your current provider, we will notify you and add the numbers to your Dashboard. Be sure to set up your numbers before the port date to ensure they work correctly after the transfer. For setup guidance, see our article on configuring a number.
• Until the transfer is complete, your numbers remain active with your current carrier, and any service issues must still be handled by them.
-
Receive confirmation about port completion
On the confirmed date, your numbers will be transferred to Aircall and activated in your Dashboard. If your numbers are already set up, the transition should be seamless, though a brief downtime may occur. Once the porting is complete, our team will notify you via your porting ticket, and you will be able to start using your numbers with Aircall.
Note: SMS functionality may take up to 3 business days to activate after your number has been successfully ported.
FAQs
Can I request a specific porting date?
You may request a preferred date, but it cannot be guaranteed. The final porting date is set by coordination between your current provider and Aircall’s carrier.
Will all numbers be ported on the same date if I am porting multiple numbers?
If all your numbers belong to a one number block, they will be ported together on the same date.
If your numbers are not configured as a block, Aircall can request the same porting date for all of the numbers, but this depends on your current carrier’s acceptance. Each porting request is processed separately by your current carrier and must be individually accepted, which can result in different porting dates.
Can I pause or reschedule a porting request?
Porting requests cannot be paused. To delay the process, the request must be canceled and resubmitted when you are ready.
We can try to submit a rescheduling request, but it must be approved by your current provider. To improve the chances, inform us at least 2–3 business days before the confirmed porting date and notify your provider that you wish to reschedule the port. Please note that approval is not guaranteed, as it depends entirely on your current provider.
Can I cancel a porting request?
Yes, but only at least within 2–3 business days of the confirmed porting date and after your current provider has approved the cancellation request.
Short-notice cancellations are very likely to fail, and the numbers may still be ported. Canceling a request also increases the risk of service disruption. Aircall may need your assistance to ensure your current provider processes the cancellation correctly.
My number stopped working during the porting process. What should I do?
If the number has not yet been ported, your current provider remains responsible for numbers reachability.
If the number has been ported into Aircall’s network:
- Make sure the number is set up correctly from your end. See our article on configuring a number.
- Check that the assigned user is online.
- If the issue persists, send Aircall Support at least 3 failed call examples with the following details:
- Number called to:
- Number called from:
- Carrier of the number called from:
- Date, time, and time zone of the call:
Are there any fees for porting?
Porting numbers into Aircall is free of charge. However, Aircall is not responsible for any fees your current provider may charge, such as early termination or contract release fees. Always confirm with your provider before starting your porting request.
How can I port out my number?
