There are many reasons that people may want to keep the phone numbers that they already have. Whatever reason you have for keeping your number, we understand that switching to a new phone system should not have to mean getting a new number too.
There are a few options to link your Twilio numbers to Aircall.
⚠️ With this option, you will not be able to send or receive SMS messages through Twilio, since this is not supported on Aircall's platform at this time.
The second option allows you to link your Twilio number to Aircall. This is a great option if you want to keep your SMS services through Twilio while using the Aircall platform for phone calls.
However, before we go ahead and link your Twilio number to Aircall, make sure you keep in mind the following things:
Aircall cannot assist with your Twilio account including invoicing, configuration, and compliance.
Aircall will not be able to help with issues that come up from using your Twilio phone number. If you do happen to have any phone quality issues or need support, you would have to contact Twilio.
Twilio numbers are charged differently than Aircall numbers. Your toll-free inbound calls will be charged on both Aircall and Twilio. However, geographic (non-toll-free) inbound calls are free on Aircall but will be charged on Twilio.
Purchase a Number from Twilio
If you do not yet have a number on Twilio, the first step would be to purchase one on their website. You will need to create your own Twilio account and purchase a number from there. Once you have your number, write it down in the International Format (E164 Format) like this:
Make sure there are no spaces, dashes, or points, and that you start the number with the “+” sign as the first character.
Create a New SIP Trunk
Start by logging into your Twilio account
Then go to: https://www.twilio.com/console/sip-trunking/trunks (Home > Elastic SIP Trunking > Manage > Trunks)
Click on Create new SIP Trunk located on the right-hand corner of the page, or in the center of the page if this is your first SIP Trunk
Type Aircall Trunk as the Friendly Name of your new trunk and select Create
From here you can turn on the Call Recording function (even if call recording is not active on Twilio, you can activate it on Aircall).
Deactivate Secure Trunking
Configure Your New SIP Trunk
Once you have created the SIP trunk, click the Origination tab to configure it.
Next, click on Add New Origination URI and include the following value in the SIP URI section, depending on the region your number is for:
sip:aircall-custom.sip.sg1.twilio.com for Asia and Oceania
sip:aircall-custom.sip.us1.twilio.com for North and South America
sip:aircall-custom.sip.ie1.twilio.com for Europe
Add Your Twilio Number to This Trunk
Go to the Numbers tab of your SIP trunk and click on Add a Number. You can also use filters to select your Twilio number.
Check Twilio's Pricing
Twilio charges for each number you own as well as for each minute of incoming calls. Their pricing page explains how much it costs for local, mobile, and national numbers, so make sure you have the needed credits on your account:
Send Aircall Your Phone Number
Once you are all set up on Twilio, you will be ready to link your number to Aircall. All you have to do is submit a request for your SIP trunked number to be added to the Dashboard, and we will do the rest from there.
⚠️ If you have more than one Twilio number to link to Aircall, just repeat the steps above. You can include multiple numbers in one ticket to the Aircall Support Team.
