AI Voice Agent templates are the fastest way to get an AI Voice Agent up and running. Instead of building an agent and writing its configuration from scratch, you pick a ready-made template for a common use case, and Aircall creates a working agent you can simply review, adjust, and connect to a number.
This article walks you through what templates are, which ones are available, and how to go from template to live agent.
What is an AI Voice Agent template?
A template is a pre-built AI Voice Agent designed for a specific, proven use case. It's called a template, but it doesn't start blank: each one already comes with its role, tasks, conversation flow, and configuration in place, and connects to whatever integration it needs, like HubSpot or Shopify.
Choosing a template creates a real, working agent in your account. Instead of building something from the ground up, you're reviewing what's already there and making it yours.
With templates, you can:
- Skip the learning curve: get a working agent without needing to write prompts or design a conversation flow yourself.
- Go live faster: review, adjust, and connect your agent to a number in one sitting.
- Stay in control: review the agent's voice, knowledge, and conversation flow before it speaks to any caller.
Note: Creating an agent from scratch still works exactly as it does today. Templates are simply a new, faster way to start.
Available templates
- FAQ Deflector: answers common caller questions, such as business hours, pricing, or location, using your own content. When it can't help, or the caller wants a person, it takes a message so your team can follow up.
- Lead qualifier: answers inbound calls, collects the caller's details, and qualifies them as a lead. The lead is logged directly in HubSpot.
- Order support: answers "Where is my order?" calls by giving callers instant updates on their order status and tracking, using your Shopify store data.
Important: The Lead Qualifier template requires the HubSpot integration. If HubSpot isn't connected to your Aircall account, you'll see a "Missing HubSpot integration" message when choosing templates. Connect HubSpot first, then come back to the template. Similarly, the Order support template requires the Shopify integration.

Creating an agent from a template
Step 1: Choose a template
- Go to Aircall Dashboard > AI Agents > AI Voice Agents
- If you don't have a AI Voice agent yet, you will see a message with the available templates so you can use them to create a new AI Voice agent. If you already have one, select Use AI agent template at the top of the page to see a list with the available templates.
- Optionally, select the phone icon on a template to call the sample agent and hear a fully built version of that agent handle a call.
- Select the template you want, then select Use template.
Step 2: Complete the guided setup
A guided setup walks you through the agent Aircall has already assembled for you. A progress bar at the top shows where you are. Some steps are pre-filled, and others need your input.
- Role and tasks: review what the agent does and the tasks it handles, such as answering frequently asked questions or taking a message.
- Voice and speech: confirm the agent's name, the greeting it uses to answer calls, and the farewell it uses to end them. You can adjust the voice settings and select Hear how it sounds to preview it.
- Context: add the knowledge sources the agent uses to answer questions, such as a page from your website. Suggested topics, like business hours and pricing, show what your sources should cover.
- Conversation overview: review the flow of the conversation, laid out visually, including the points where it branches. Select Test your agent to call it and hear how it handles a conversation.
Tip: For the FAQ deflector, the knowledge sources you add in the Context step are what the agent answers from. Add at least one source that covers the questions your callers ask most. New sources can take a few minutes to finish processing, and you can carry on with the setup while they do.
Step 3: Connect a number and go live
The final step of the guided setup is where your agent goes live. You can connect it to a number on the same page, without leaving the setup or building a call flow yourself.
- Select the Aircall number you want your agent to answer.
- Connect the number to your agent:
- If the number doesn't have a call flow yet, Aircall sets one up for you automatically from a call flow template, so your agent can start taking calls right away.
- If the number already has a call flow, you'll get a link to open it in the Call Flow editor, where you can add your agent.
- Your agent is now live and ready to handle calls.
Note: If you aren't ready to connect a number yet, close the guided setup and select Save and close. Your agent is saved and you can connect a number later. Once you leave the guided setup, you can keep editing the agent in its full configuration, but you can't return to the guided setup. For details on adding an agent to a call flow manually, please see Adding your AI Voice Agent to a call flow.
Customizing your agent after setup
Once the guided setup is complete, your agent works like any other AI Voice Agent. You can open it at any time to fine-tune it in its full configuration, for example to:
- Add or update knowledge sources
- Adjust the call script or conversation guidelines
- Add call transfer rules so the agent can hand callers over to your team
- Add more AI actions
Once your agent is live, see Track AI Voice Agent's performance to monitor how it's handling calls.
FAQs
Can I customize an agent created from a template?
Yes. The template only sets the starting point. You can change anything in the agent's configuration after the guided setup.
Does the FAQ deflector agent transfer calls to my team?
Not by default. The FAQ agent answers questions and takes a message when it can't help. If you want it to hand callers over to a person, you can add call transfer rules in the agent's configuration after setup.
Does the Lead Qualifier transfer calls to a sales rep?
Not by default. It qualifies the caller and logs the lead in HubSpot. To route the call itself to a rep, add call transfer rules in the agent's configuration after setup.
I closed the guided setup before finishing. Can I pick up where I left off?
If you selected Save and close, your agent is saved and you can continue in its full configuration. You can't reopen the guided setup itself.
Can I still build an agent from scratch?
Yes. Building an agent from scratch works exactly as before.
