This article explains how outbound calling permissions work in Aircall, which permission levels are available, and what to keep in mind when requesting additional access or optimizing call routing over long distances.
Outbound calling permission
When you create an Aircall account, it comes with standard outbound calling permissions. If you need access to additional calling destinations or number ranges, you can reach out to your Account Executive or Customer Success Manager for assistance.
Permission types
There are three levels of permissions available for outbound calling.
Important: Aircall may adjust the conditions for outbound calling permissions at any time without prior notice.
Additional permissions are not available for trial accounts.
Standard permissions
By default, some destinations, specific countries or number types, are restricted.
Aircall ensures access to a wide range of frequently used destinations, which you can find listed here for example. However, certain locations will remain blocked.
Additional permissions
Worldwide Calling
When enabled, this configuration allows outbound calls to some number ranges that are blocked by default. Most countries will be reachable, but some ranges may still be restricted.
Premium Rate Services
When enabled, this configuration allows outbound calls to specific prefixes within each country code. These destinations may have different costs, referenced in the article Understanding your call charges. Most countries and number ranges would be reachable with minimal restrictions.
How to request advanced outbound permissions
As an account Owner or Administrator, you can request that additional outbound permissions be enabled for your account.
Steps:
Contact your Aircall Account Executive or Customer Success team.
-
Request enablement of one or both of the following configurations:
Worldwide Calling
Premium Rate Services
Wait for confirmation that the configuration has been enabled on your account.
Once enabled, changes may take up to 1 hour to become effective.
Important notes
Call costs
Information about call costs can be found in the article Understanding your call charges.
Custom permissions
Aircall can enable Worldwide Calling (Expensive Destinations) or Premium Rate Services on your account as described above.
However:
Additional tailored or custom configurations for outbound calling are not available at this time.
It is not possible to partially or completely disable international calling.
Fraud prevention
Some destinations and number ranges may be intentionally blocked by Aircall to prevent fraud and abuse of the system.
If you request the ability to make calls with additional permissions, you are responsible for any costs associated with those calls, as mentioned in Aircall Terms & Conditions.
Enabling these configurations may result in higher call rates, and any charges incurred will be reflected on your account.
Tip: Monitor your call usage and invoices regularly after enabling additional permissions to avoid unexpected charges.
Number limitations
Some number types may have outbound limitations due to regulatory restrictions. For example, toll-free numbers may only receive inbound calls, and outbound calls from these numbers may be blocked by local carriers.
External numbers
External numbers, if not ported to or purchased through Aircall, may be blocked or have their Caller ID changed by destination or intermediary carriers.
Aircall cannot guarantee:
Call reachability for external numbers
Correct display of Caller ID for external numbers
Long geographical distance calling and routing
By default, when you place an outbound call using a number from a specific country, Aircall behaves as if the call is originating from that country. The call is routed through the network path associated with that country.
If you are using these numbers from outside their original country, this default behavior may not provide the most optimized network path for your location. In some cases, this can affect call quality or introduce additional latency.
In these situations, Aircall can adjust routing so that calls are based closer to your actual IP location, which can improve audio quality and stability.
What to do:
Contact the Aircall Support team.
Mention that you would like to optimize your routing with the Voice Quality team.
They can review your current setup and apply routing adjustments where appropriate, especially if your teams are placing calls from a different region than the country shown in your caller number.
