Receiving a message with an MMS:
Notifications & list view
When you receive a new MMS, you can enable push notifications in the system settings to be notified. In the pop-up alert, you can see a quick preview of the message:
- "Attachment(s)", if supported media are received
- "Unsupported content", if all media are incompatible with defined formats
- "Text extract", if the media are sent with a text message, as in the case of a standard SMS
Access messages directly from the push notification or navigate to the list view in the Messaging tab. Your new MMS will be displayed in the counter below:
Preview and Download
Preview:
In the Detail view, you can preview up to 4 received media.
If more media are received, a counter will indicate additional media to be accessed. If the media is sent with a text message, you'll see the text message along with the media preview.
Download:
Download any number of attachments with a single click.
When bulk downloading attachments, you will see a progress indicator to indicate how much time is left to download your media. Once the download is complete, the validation message appears and you can access the media in your system's download file.
⚠️ Please note: Slight differences in user experience can be occur on mobile.
For example, the attachment gallery is available by tapping on the media, Users can swipe right/left to browse through the attachments.
On the other hand, viewing the details of the content limitation warning also requires a tap.
Sending a Message with media attachment (MMS)
Similar to SMS, you can send MMS from several views within the app, including: the Keyboard, People, and Messages tabs.
To do so, select the MMS capable line, which will be indicated by the "SMS MMS" badge displayed in front of the number.
⚠️ Remember, MMS is enabled for the US, Canada, and Australia only, so make sure the recipient number is in one of these countries.
Select attachments
Once you have selected the MMS capable line and the contact, add your attachment(s) at the bottom of the phone window by clicking the clip button to start a conversation.
When files are successfully attached, a thumbnail is displayed with the indication “total computed attachments size/ maximum accepted size."
Delete any attachments before sending, if necessary, using the "X" button available on each attached image. Feel free to add a text message too!
Errors and Limitations with MMS
If the existing limitations for MMS are not respected, error messages will return, indicating the reason why the upload was unsuccessful and the attachment is automatically removed.
If several attachments have been uploaded simultaneously, only those with a problem will be removed.
The following errors may occur during upload:
- More than 10 attachments have been added: “You can only upload up to 10 files. Please remove some files and try again”
- The attachment(s) size exceeds the limit defined by the carrier: “Your file size exceeds the limit of <->. Please reduce the file size and try again”; “Your total file size exceeds the limit of <>. Please reduce the file size and try again”.
- The attachment(s) format is incompatible: “Only pdf, jpg, jpeg, png, or gif files are allowed for MMS”.
- An unknown problem prevents uploading the media: “Sorry, the problem has occurred. Please try again later”. In this case, try again later or contact your administrator.
Content limitations
Unsupported content
If any media sent or received does not respect the MMS file types or size limites supported, you will not be able to view or download this attachment.
The alert will be visible in front of the message bubble with the following note visible on hover: "Some media cannot be received due to unsupported format."
If none of the attachments sent complies, additionally the media preview will be empty.
Send and Drafts
When you’re ready, click the Send button and voila!
You’ll notice send and delivery statuses are present similar to those of SMS messages. If the MMS is successfully delivered, the “delivered” status is displayed; otherwise the “not sent” status will be displayed after a while.
If you don't send your message on the spot, or you leave the Messages view for any reason, your message will automatically be saved as a draft for the current session only.
⚠️ Please note: Due to device characteristics, slight differences in user experience can occur on mobile.
For example, if delivery of media fails, the error is displayed to alert the user, but the draft message is no longer available. On Android, if the message contains multiple attachments, only valid attachments are sent, and invalid ones are not. On iOS, if the message contains multiple attachments and at least one of them is invalid, none of them will be sent.
Storage Constraints
After a given period (depending on company configuration), media files may expire due to legal storage constraints, or become unavailable as a result of an error. The standard limit of media history is typically 6 months.
As a result, clicking on the download button returns the error "Some media is unavailable due to an error" and the download cannot be accomplished.
