After downloading and installing the Aircall Android app, you must configure the required permissions and settings to ensure the app works correctly. This article walks you through the necessary permissions and optional preferences to get started.

Required app permissions

To use Aircall on Android, several permissions are required. Some additional permissions are optional and can be enabled later if needed.

Overview of permissions

The following permissions are required to enable the app:

  • Microphone
  • Notifications
  • Phone
  • Run in background

The following permissions are optional:

  • Contacts
  • Concurrent calls

Microphone permission

Aircall requires access to your microphone to make and receive calls. Make sure permission is enabled for Aircall to record audio

Without this permission, calling functionality will not work correctly.

Important: Although call recording can be enabled or disabled per number in Aircall, microphone access must be allowed on your device before you can use this feature.

Notification permission

Notification permissions are mandatory on Android 13 and later.

When notifications are enabled and you launch the app for the first time, you will see a persistent notification. This behavior is common in apps such as WhatsApp when connected to Desktop.

This notification helps prevent Android from stopping the app in the background to save battery or memory, which could otherwise cause missed calls or delayed notifications. It also provides a shortcut to quickly open the app and update your availability status.

Run in background permission

Aircall must be allowed to run in the background so it can remain connected and continue receiving calls and notifications even when the app is not actively open.

Disabling this permission may prevent inbound calls from ringing.

Contacts permission

Allowing access to contacts makes it easier to interact with people stored on your Android device.

With this permission enabled, you can:

  • View your local device contacts directly in the Aircall app.
  • Call local device contacts using Aircall.
Note: Local device contacts are not shared with your teammates.

This permission is optional and can be enabled later if needed.

Enable contacts after setup

If you did not enable contacts during the initial setup, you can turn it on later:

  1. Open Settings in the Aircall app.
  2. Go to Preferences.
  3. Select Privacy and permissions.
  4. Enable Contacts by toggling the switch.
