If you can't install the Aircall Workspace desktop app, for example due to IT restrictions, a limited machine configuration, or a company policy, you can still run Aircall Workspace in its own window by installing it as a web app (also called a Progressive Web App, or PWA) using Google Chrome.

Important: This is not the official way to run Aircall Workspace. Prefer the desktop app when possible, and use this method only when you cannot or prefer not to install it.

Installing it as a web app gives you a dedicated Aircall Workspace window with its own icon in your taskbar (Windows) or Dock (Mac), no browser tabs or address bar, and a separate entry when you switch between open apps. It runs the same web version of Aircall you already use, just in a cleaner, standalone window.

This is not the same as the standalone Aircall Workspace desktop app that you download and install from Aircall. The web app is the browser version of Aircall in an app-style window, so it still relies on Chrome to run, including for notifications. 

Good to know

  • You need Google Chrome installed on your computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux).
  • The Aircall Workspace desktop app is not available on Linux. If you're on Linux, this web app is the only app-like option for running Aircall Workspace.
  • The web app uses the same login session as Chrome, so sign in to workspace.aircall.io in Chrome first.
  • Aircall needs access to your microphone to make and receive calls. Allow microphone access for workspace.aircall.io when Chrome asks for it.
  • Chrome must be running for the web app to receive calls and notifications. See A note on notifications below.
  • Headset controls and deeper OS-level integrations are only available in the native desktop app, not in this web app version.

Install Aircall Workspace as a web app

Steps:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Go to workspace.aircall.io and sign in.
  3. At the top right, select More (the three-dot menu), then Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install.
Tip: On some setups, an Install icon appears at the right of the address bar. You can select that instead of using the menu.

The Aircall Workspace app now opens in its own window and adds an icon to your taskbar (Windows) or Dock (Mac). You can pin it there for quick access.

Open Aircall automatically when you sign in (optional)

If you want Aircall ready as soon as you start your computer:

Steps

  1. In a new Chrome tab, go to chrome://apps.
  2. Right-click the Aircall Workspace app.
  3. Select Launch at startup.

To turn this off, right-click the app again and deselect Launch at startup.

A note on notifications

Because this is a web app running inside Chrome, and not a standalone app, your call and message notifications are still served and displayed by Google Chrome and your operating system, not by a native Aircall app.

What this means for you:

  • Chrome must be running (in the background is fine) to receive notifications.
  • Notifications follow your Chrome notification permissions for workspace.aircall.io and your computer's notification settings, for example Windows Focus assist or macOS Do Not Disturb. If notifications are blocked at either level, you will not see incoming call alerts.
Important: Allow notifications for workspace.aircall.io when Chrome prompts you, so you do not miss calls.

Keeping the app up to date

You do not need to update the web app manually. Because it runs the web version of Aircall, it always loads the latest version of workspace.aircall.io when it opens. Whenever Aircall releases an update, you get it automatically the next time the app loads, so there is nothing to download or reinstall.

Tip: If something looks out of date, close the Aircall Workspace app window and open it again. This forces it to load the newest version, the same way refreshing a browser tab does.

It also helps to keep Google Chrome up to date. Chrome updates itself automatically, and since the web app and its notifications run on Chrome, an up-to-date Chrome keeps everything working smoothly. On the rare occasion that the app's name or icon changes, Chrome shows an App update available prompt at the top right of the app window, which you can review and accept.

Remove the Aircall Workspace web app

Steps:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Open the Aircall Workspace app.
  3. At the top right of the app window, select More, then Uninstall Aircall Workspace, then Remove.
  4. To also clear the app's stored data, select Also delete data from Chrome.
Note: You can also manage or remove installed web apps from chrome://apps: right-click the app and select Remove from Chrome.

Removing the web app does not delete your Aircall account and does not sign you out of workspace.aircall.io in Chrome itself. You can reinstall it any time by following the steps above.
