This article walks through the full process of activating an eSIM for an Aircall French mobile number. The process involves three roles: the Owner, the Admin, and the Agent.
Requirements
Before starting, confirm the following:
- An eSIM add-on has been purchased (Voice+SMS, Voice+SMS+Data, or Voice+SMS+Data Pro)
- The number to be used is a French mobile number
- The agent's smartphone supports eSIM technology
Step 1: Owner purchases the eSIM add-on
- Log in to the Aircall Dashboard with Owner permissions
- Click your company name, then go to the Plan tab
- In the Add-on panel, select Buy eSIMs
- Purchase the required number of eSIM licenses for your account
The eSIM add-on is billed monthly in addition to your existing plan.
Step 2: Admin assigns the license to a French mobile number
- Go Aircall Dashboard > Numbers
-
Select the French mobile number you want to assign an eSIM to
- Open the Integrations tab
If the number is currently a shared line, update the call flow to convert it to a direct number before continuing. For more details, please see the article Direct numbers.
-
Once the number is configured as a direct number, select Assign eSIM license
-
Choose the license to assign to the user and confirm
You can return to the Numbers list to verify that the eSIM has been assigned successfully.
Step 3: Agent activates the eSIM on their device
Once the Admin completes the setup, the agent receives an email with a QR code and instructions for installing the eSIM on their device.
On iOS, iPhone

On Android
Steps
- Scan the QR code from the email
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
Managing eSIM assignments
Recovering a deleted number with an eSIM
If a number with an active eSIM is deleted and then recovered, the eSIM configuration is reset. The Admin will need to reassign the eSIM license and the agent will need to reinstall the eSIM on their device following the same activation steps.
Reassigning an eSIM to a different user
If the user assigned to an eSIM number is changed, the existing eSIM is automatically cancelled and the Admin will need to assign a new eSIM to the number. The new user will receive an email with a QR code to install the eSIM on their device. The previous user's eSIM will stop working immediately upon reassignment.
