Summary
A user role in Aircall is a set of permissions that determines what a user can see and do within the platform. Aircall offers three user roles (Agent, Supervisor, and Admin) you can assign to your team, depending on the sections of the Dashboard they need access to and the tasks they’re responsible for. You can also add Owner permissions on top of any role if needed.
Let’s break it down.
👥 Three main User Roles
-
Agent
This is the core role — perfect for team members handling calls and conversations.
⚠️ Note: Any new user will be assigned at least the Agent role, with which the user will be able to access the Aircall apps to make and receive calls.
-
Supervisor
Includes everything Agents can do, plus visibility into team calls, reporting tools - for their assigned teams and numbers - and some dashboard settings. Check the Supervisor Limitation Role article to find out more. -
Admin
Comes with full access. Admins can do everything Supervisors can, plus manage system settings, users, and phone numbers.
Agent Ideal for customer-facing employees to handle calls and conversations.
|
Supervisor Ideal for team leads responsible for monitoring and coaching team performance.
|
Admin Ideal for leadership and IT to manage the system and users.

🔧 Assigning Roles
When adding a new user:
- Just pick one of the three roles: Agent, Supervisor, or Admin.
- If they need Owner-level access (for billing, company settings, etc.), toggle that on under the Advanced permissions column.
To manage existing users:
- Head to the Users page in your dashboard.
- Use the Advanced permissions filter to quickly find who has Owner access.
- Click on a user to open their profile, then update their role or permissions in the General > Roles & Permissions section.
⚠️ Note: Agents and Supervisors are not able to change user roles. Admins can edit and create other Admins, Supervisors or Agents. Owners have limited role permissions and are only able to create and edit other Owner users.
