As part of its obligations under the Telecommunications Act 1997, Aircall is required to provide to the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) a list of all Australian public phone numbers and related customer information.
What is the IPND?
The IPND is a central database which serves as a repository of information broadly including, but not limited to, the following:
- the Australian phone numbers,
- the customer names,
- the customer addresses;
For the avoidance of doubt, the address can only be a physical address of a building or other facility (ex. dwelling, office building, marina, manufacturing or storage facility). Post Boxes or Roadside Mail Boxes are not supported by the IPND. - the user type (e.g. individual or business).
IPND functioning and safeguards
The access and use of the IPND data are strictly regulated. Telstra was appointed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) as IPND manager.
The access to the IPND data is reserved to the Emergency Services, National Security and Law Enforcement, Directory Enquiries and Research. Researcher and Directories shall apply for authorisation to use information in the IPND.
