This article outlines calling limitations and restrictions for specific countries when using Aircall numbers. Review the sections below to understand potential issues and how to ensure smooth communication with your contacts.

Chile

 Details
SymptomUsers may be unable to receive calls on Chilean numbers in the +5644x range, or callers may be unable to reach Aircall numbers in this range.
CauseThis number range is not always reachable from non-Chilean numbers.
SolutionIf you expect to receive calls from international (non-Chilean) numbers, avoid using an Aircall number in the +5644x range. Purchase and use a number from a different Chilean number range to prevent reachability problems.

China

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) enforces strict regulations on the use of VoIP, which can lead to reachability issues. These restrictions apply across the telecommunications industry and are not exclusive to Aircall or its carriers.

Key points for calling in China

  • Chinese numbers can only be used for inbound calls. Outbound calls are not permitted.
  • Chinese numbers can only receive calls from international (non-Chinese) numbers. Any inbound call using a Chinese caller ID will be blocked.
  • There is strict spam monitoring and general VoIP restrictions:
    • Calls lasting less than three minutes may be blocked. Maintain an average call duration of three minutes or more.
    • High volumes of unanswered outbound calls may lead to blocking.
    • Unsolicited marketing calls are not allowed.
    • Avoid making multiple calls from the same origin number within one hour.
  • Do not make calls using modified, spoofed, or restricted caller IDs.
  • Toll-free numbers will be blocked.
  • Outbound calls to Chinese numbers are not guaranteed to connect.
Important: Aircall does not offer the purchase or porting of Chinese numbers.
Important: As of November 30, 2023, Aircall has discontinued call services to Mainland China due to industry-wide restrictions. Outbound calling to China is no longer available.

Calling line identification (CLI) for Hong Kong numbers

 Details
SymptomCalls made to Hong Kong numbers appear as "anonymous" to the recipients.
CauseThe design of the PSTN (traditional telephony network) to VoIP interconnection prevents proper calling line identification (CLI) translation on international calls. This means the caller’s actual number is not preserved and appears as "anonymous."
SolutionTo ensure recipients can see your number when calling Hong Kong, use an Aircall Hong Kong number for outbound calls.
Note: If you do not yet have a Hong Kong number, please contact our Customer Support team to purchase one.

Finland

Currently, premium rate Finnish numbers in the +358100x and +358200x ranges cannot be called from Aircall due to outbound carrier limitations.

India

 Details
SymptomsUnable to call Indian toll-free numbers from the Aircall phone. Users are unable to call Indian numbers from their Aircall Indian numbers.
Cause
  • Indian toll-free numbers (for example, 000 800) cannot be called from Aircall as they must be dialed in a special national format that does not comply with E.164 standards.
  • Aircall requires E.164-formatted numbers to successfully make calls.
  • Additionally, due to regulatory changes in India, downstream carriers no longer terminate national traffic originating from outside the country unless it is genuine roaming traffic. As Aircall is a cloud-based solution, it cannot meet this requirement.
SolutionThere is currently no workaround for calling Indian toll-free numbers. Contact the callee to request an alternative number format. For calling other Indian numbers, use non-Indian Aircall numbers to avoid reachability issues.

Australia

In compliance with the Australian Telecommunications Numbering Plan, businesses using Australian numbers (+61) must maintain a strong connection, or nexus, with the Australian market - especially when operating from outside Australia. This ensures both regulatory compliance and reliable service.

Sufficient nexus with Australia

A business outside Australia is considered to have a sufficient nexus when:

  •  Australian numbers are used to receive incoming calls from Australian customers.
  • Offshore call centers act on behalf of Australian entities.

Limitations on use outside Australia

Australian numbers should not be used to reach audiences outside Australia if a nexus with the Australian market is not established. Avoid using Australian numbers for international audiences or non-Australian business operations.

By ensuring compliance with these regulations, your business maintains seamless service and avoids interruptions.

Important: Aircall reserves the right to limit services in accordance with its Terms and Conditions if nexus requirements are not met.
