Important: Starting November 8, 2024, all unregistered outbound US/CA Toll-Free SMS traffic will be blocked by major carriers.

To continue sending SMS messages from your Toll-Free numbers, you must complete the verification process by contacting our Support team.

This process is jointly managed by Aircall, our suppliers, and carrier partners. Verification ensures your messages are delivered successfully and reduces the risk of filtering across major US and Canadian networks.

Why verification is required

Verification is mandatory for all businesses using US or Canada Toll-Free numbers for messaging, regardless of messaging volume or use case.

  • This requirement is separate from A2P 10DLC registration, which applies only to US local numbers and varies by use case and volume.
  • If you have already registered for A2P 10DLC, you must still provide unique verification details for your Toll-Free numbers.

What happens if your Toll-Free number is not verified

If your Toll-Free number is not verified, or if your verification documentation is rejected, outgoing SMS traffic will be blocked for that number. While your verification is pending, outbound SMS traffic will remain open but subject to specific limitations.

Note: Inbound SMS traffic and voice services will remain unaffected regardless of verification status.

Messaging limits for pending or unverified numbers

For US destinations (while verification is pending)

  • Daily limit: 2,000 segments
  • Weekly limit: 6,000 segments
  • Monthly limit: 10,000 segments
Important: Any outbound SMS messages sent beyond these limits will be filtered by our provider. Inbound messages will not be affected.

For Canadian destinations

All unverified Toll-Free outbound SMS traffic to Canadian numbers will be blocked until verification is approved.

Understanding SMS segments

Aircall, along with all carriers and providers, measures messages in segments, following the SMS standard established in the 1990s.

  • 1 segment equals 160 characters (using standard GSM characters).
  • Longer messages are automatically split into multiple segments but appear as a single message to recipients.
  • A message can contain up to 1,600 characters (10 segments).

You can use online SMS segment calculators to determine how many segments your messages contain.

Note: SMS traffic limits for pending or unverified Toll-Free numbers are based on total segments, not message count.

By completing the Toll-Free number verification process, your business ensures uninterrupted and compliant messaging to customers across the US and Canada.
