On January 1, 2023, the French Regulatory Authority (ARCEP) rolled out a significant update to the French Numbering Plan. These changes aim to bring about enhanced regulation and user experience in the realm of mobile numbers.
What are the changes?:
- Updated usage rules for Mobile Numbers with restrictions on outbound SMS. Messaging features will be disabled if certain thresholds are exceeded: 10,000 SMS per month, 1,000 SMS per day, or 100 SMS per hour. For detailed information, please refer to the article French Messaging Limitations
- Creation of new Number Range - A new range of phone numbers has been introduced for Voice and Messaging usage by ARCEP in the National Numbering Plan, also referred to as National Platform Numbers (prefix 093XXXXXX).
To align with these changes, you are asked to adhere to the following guidelines for Aircall Mobile numbers:
-
➡️ Assign a Mobile number to a single user
- ✅ Ensure a dedicated user per mobile number.
- ❌ No use of a mobile number by several users.
-
➡️ Run two-way conversational use cases
- ✅ Engage in balanced two-way voice and / or messaging communications
- ❌ No use of voice or message communications that do not allow direct inbound customer communication, or mass communications for instance
Additionally, you should use French mobile numbers from Aircall mobile app only. An existing French Mobile number will also be required to purchase an Aircall French Mobile Number. You can use one of your French mobile numbers already associated with a mobile device equipped with a valid SIM card or e-SIM. Aircall Mobile numbers, Non-French Mobile numbers, and other French Number Types (e.g., Local, National, or Toll-Free) are not accepted.
If you do not comply with the updated mobile number usage guidelines, you may face disruptions to your services using French Mobile Numbers. We encourage you to contact our support team who is available to provide alternative solutions, including the replacement with a different phone number type.
⚠️ Please note: Only existing Aircall French numbers that were already set up with Third-Party SMS will continue functioning as intended with the integration. Active French Mobiles not using Third-Party SMS and new French Mobiles added to your account will not support Third-Party SMS.
